This year's JMIC (Joint Meetings Industry Council) Unity Award was presented to Luca Favetta, Global Event Director of SAP.  In the opinion of the judges, Favetta made and exceptional and admirable contribution to the industry not least through his role as co-Chair of MPI's Global Corporate Circle of Excellence in 2005 and the MPI European Council prior to that.

This year's MPI (Meeting Professionals International) Youth Foundation Winner was Lorenz Halm, who is currently Project Assistant at MCI.  Halm's thesis on the relevance of professional trade associations for the development of the Spanish meetings industry was considered incisive, informative and extremely relevant.

A single minded determination to demonstrate its environmental values and the expert help of a dedicated stand constructor, Expoforce GmbH, helped the Sri Lankan Convention Bureau become the first ever winners of the IMEX Green Exhibitor Award. The stand featured a variety of non-toxic materials such as natural sisal floor covering and water-soluble paint.  Its durable lightweight frame can be reused up to 65 times while 90% of its graphic artwork can be re-used an estimated four to six times. The use of low voltage lighting and open-roofing also allowed maximum use of ambient light from the hall floor and reduced the stand's total electricity consumption.

They also chose to aknowledge the strong environmental achievements of the Sierra Club Summit 2005 (USA) with a separate Silver Award.
