30 scholarship places were available to European students attending the MPI European Meetings and Events Conference in Malaga in 2010. Students attended the conference and the Future Leaders Forum at their own expense and IMEX paid for the 30 scholarship students to attend the Future Leaders Forum at IMEX (flights and accommodation).

30 future leaders from various European countries congregated in Malaga to take part in the IMEX-MPI Future Leaders Forum. All participants were currently completing studies in business tourism or the meeting and event management sector, and enjoyed a day of educational and networking sessions prior to attending the whole of MPI’s 2010 European Meetings & Events Conference itself.

Jon Bradshaw, who combines his role as IMEX Director of Business Development with his professional speaking business, shared his story of organising Cycle Europe 2008 his attempt to raise £20,000 for charity on a 5500km bike ride. Jon took students on a virtual trip through nine European countries over his epic 13 week trip. Bianca Manteuffel, Manager of Member services for MPI outlined the issues surrounding communicating and working with Generation X and their importance within the meetings industry in an entertaining session. Finally Charles Massey, Founder & CEO of Synaxis Meetings & Events, outlined his experience of the industry and gave an informative and practical overview of how the industry works and how to get the most out of the congress itself.

In addition the Future Leaders Forum saw the three finalists of the IMEX-MPI Future Leaders Challenge present their creative ideas on how they would create an event. The winner was Katarzyna Ryll from the University of Economics and Computer Science in Warsaw. Katarzyna will present her entry in the final which will be held at IMEX in Frankfurt in May. The winner of the final will win registration and travel to one of MPI’s international conferences in 2010/11.

"I feel that the Future Leaders Forum was a great, intuitive way to enable us the students to make our first steps towards the professional events community and interact with experienced delegates."
