What is the Executive Meeting Forum?

The Executive Meeting Forum is an invitation only programme designed for senior, corporate executives who manage meetings and events programmes or departments.

Following the success of the first Executive Meeting Forum held during IMEX America in Las Vegas, October 2011, participants were keen for their European counterparts to continue their discussion during IMEX in Frankfurt, providing continual dialogue and driving a more valuable channel of communication to achieve the goals identified.

The Executive Meeting Forum will explore and challenge industry norms and current ways of doing business as well as provide actual examples of best in class corporate meetings and events practices and innovations. The programme is designed for participants to engage in provocative, forward thinking discussion, as well as produce actionable strategies. Both will have a significant effect on their own corporation as well as a ripple effect across the industry.

"The Executive Meeting Forum confirms how important our industry is. In 2010 over 323 million people attended meetings in Germany alone and over 2.69 million events were hosted. The meeting, hosted by one of our flagship properties - Maritim Hotel Frankfurt embodies our ongoing commitment as a company to our industry.

The platform of an exhibition such as IMEX, celebrating 10 years in 2012 gives further credence that our industry needs to meet to discuss the ongoing changes and share our knowledge. On behalf of the Maritim Hotel Group it is our great pleasure to be involved as a venue for the first IMEX in Frankfurt Executive Meeting Forum”
Mark Spivey, Director of International Sales, Maritim Hotels

The White Paper

The high level discussions from the first Executive Meeting Forum at IMEX America in 2011 has led to a White Paper being published which is available to share widely and freely with the industry in an effort to share what has been learned and to generate further momentum.

"The Executive Meeting Forum is a truly pioneering initiative which opens up dialogue between ourselves and our suppliers in a high-touch format, resulting in ‘takeaways’ which genuinely improve the way we do business."

Industry Initiatives and Resources

The industry is working together to combat the negative PR stories and inform the press, politicians and corporate leaders of the value of meetings, events and incentive travel programmes. Visit the following links to find out more:

The Economic Significance of Meetings to the U.S. Economy study conducted by PwC US was spearheaded by an alliance of 14 organisations representing the collective meetings, travel, exhibitions and events industries in the U.S. brought together via the Convention Industry Council. The research quantifies the economic contributions made by the 1.8 million meetings, trade shows, conventions, congresses, incentive events and other meetings that take place across the U.S. It builds on past research that has demonstrated the return on investment and value of face‐to‐face meetings.

“FACE TIME. It Matters” is a grassroots industry campaign theme designed to promote the benefits of meeting face-to-face. The campaign was developed in response to one of the most challenging years ever faced by the meeting, convention and exhibition industries. It was based on the findings of a recent national survey of corporate and association meeting planners, plus in-depth personal interviews with the industry’s leading executives as well as focus groups consisting of corporate and association executives, business travellers and professional meeting planners.

Maritz: Rather than rely on personal preferences or currently popular approaches, the decision regarding what type of meeting to run will have a direct impact on the effectiveness of your meeting. This paper examines those science-based decision criteria to help executives determine when face-to-face is the most effective approach to large-group meetings or events. The research presented in this paper authored by Christine Duffy, president and CEO of Maritz Travel, and Mary Beth McEuen, vice president and executive director, The Maritz Institute, provides direction for determining when an investment in large-group face-to-face meetings and events will have the greatest impact.
